Current Projects
Building a Better Northeast, Together.
The Christian Literature House Society (CLHS), founded by Philemon Kamel, plays a crucial role in addressing pressing challenges facing Northeast India, focusing on environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, housing support, human rights, social justice, and women’s rights advocacy. Recognizing the region’s vulnerability to climate change impacts, CLHS actively engages in environmental conservation efforts. This includes implementing afforestation programs to combat deforestation, promoting sustainable agricultural practices to reduce carbon emissions, and raising awareness about the importance of waste management and pollution control. By fostering a deeper understanding of environmental issues among local communities, CLHS empowers them to become active participants in environmental protection and climate change adaptation.
Furthermore, CLHS addresses the critical issue of housing insecurity by providing crucial support to vulnerable populations. They assist in constructing and repairing homes for those affected by displacement, natural disasters, and poverty. This ensures access to safe and adequate shelter, improving the living conditions and overall well-being of marginalized communities. Recognizing the interconnectedness of human rights, social justice, and environmental sustainability, CLHS champions the rights and empowerment of women. They advocate for gender equality, raise awareness about issues such as domestic violence and sexual harassment, and empower women. By promoting women’s social participation, CLHS contributes to the overall development and well-being of Northeast India.
In addition to these efforts, CLHS actively engages in social justice advocacy, working to address systemic issues that impact marginalized communities. They advocate for policies that promote equitable access to resources, opportunities, and justice. This includes advocating for the rights of indigenous communities, addressing issues of land rights and displacement, and promoting inclusive development that benefits all members of society. By amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and advocating for policy changes that address their needs, CLHS contributes to a more just and equitable society in Northeast India.
Through their multifaceted approach, encompassing environmental conservation, climate change mitigation, housing support, human rights, social justice, and women’s rights advocacy, the Christian Literature House Society plays a vital role in building a better Northeast India. Their work contributes to the well-being of marginalized communities, promotes sustainable development, and fosters a more just and equitable society for all.
